What Help can do
Learn how Lattuce Help answers how-to questions, reads your agenda, and proposes actions for confirmation.
Lattuce Help is a temporary product assistant. It answers how-to questions, reads your Notes agenda, can ask you clickable clarifying questions, and can propose actions you confirm.
Access Help
- Click the
?button (bottom-right) - Press
?when not typing in a field - Cmd/Ctrl+K → Ask for help…
A reliable Help request
Start with the product and the outcome you want. For example, say “In Writer, help me attach a ready PDF to my paper” or “In Notes, show my open tasks for today.” This gives Help enough context to choose the right documentation and permission boundary.
Use this short loop when a request could change data:
- State the destination: Writer, Library, Learner, Notes, or Study.
- Include the item or scope: a paper title, source URL, note title, or date.
- Review any scope choice card before continuing.
- Read the proposal summary and choose Confirm only when the target and action are correct.
- Use the Open link in the result to verify the created or imported item.
How-to answers
Ask anything about Writer, Notes, Learner, Library, or Operations. Answers come from product documentation.
Agenda
Ask What's my todo for today? Help lists open items from your Notes agenda (calendar, vault tasks, board cards, projects, missions) — same sources as the home Schedule. Answers render as formatted Markdown, and each item with a link is clickable. You need to be signed in to Notes.
Clarifying questions (default)
When something is ambiguous — or Help offers a next step (for example Library was empty and it asks whether to search the web) — you get clickable suggestions plus a text field to type your own answer. Prefer those over a back-and-forth chat interrogation.
Help combines missing details into one choice card (not title, then time, then place in separate turns). Suggestions are concrete values you can click; you can always type freely in the box below.
For paper/source suggestions without a named scope, Help blocks web/Library search until you choose Search the web, Search my Library, or Both.
Examples:
- Suggest a paper… without a source → web / imported Library / both
- Create a board… without a title or style → short title/style choices
- Remind me… without a time → common time options
- Under-specified import/search/create flows → narrow the intent, then act
Skip happens only when you already gave the needed detail, or the ask is a clear how-to.
Library search and papers
When Library scope is clear (you said so, or picked it from choices), Help searches your imported catalog and lists clickable source links.
Research papers and PDFs belong in Library (References) — not Learner. Learner is only for foreign-language reading practice. For paper suggestions, Help looks up catalogs (OpenAlex via discover_references) and/or the web. When you paste a reading-list or bibliography page URL, Help can fetch that page and extract paper/PDF/DOI links, then propose Add to Library for you to Confirm.
Actions (require your approval)
| You can ask | What happens |
|---|---|
| Suggest a paper about … | Clarifies web vs Library (or both) if needed, then searches catalogs/web |
| Extract papers from this reading-list URL | Fetches the page, lists paper/PDF candidates, then Confirm Add to Library |
| Import these papers / add to Library | Clarifies which titles, then proposes Library ingest from PDF/landing URL |
| Create / remind / import (vague) | Clarifies missing fields via choices, then proposes |
| What's my todo for today? | Lists agenda items (no Confirm) |
| Create a whiteboard called … | Proposes a canvas board — Confirm opens the board |
| Create a note called … | Proposes a vault note — Confirm creates it (Open link in toast) |
| Remind me tomorrow at 9am to … | Proposes a calendar event — Confirm creates it; Open goes to that day |
| Add this PDF/DOI URL to Library | Proposes Library source ingest — Confirm adds it; Open goes to /library/source/… |
| Import this article URL into Learner | Proposes HTML study import (language learning only) — Confirm runs it; Open goes to the reader |
| Find epub links for … | Searches the web — you download and upload EPUB manually |
Nothing mutable is created until you press Confirm. Dismiss cancels a proposal or choice card.
Help is intentionally not a background operator. It does not silently create notes, events, boards, Library sources, or Learner imports. A failed proposal can usually be retried after correcting the title, URL, date, or destination; if the action is not offered, follow the linked integration and sync guidance or use the product guide for that workflow.
When features are unavailable
- No AI key configured → keyword help articles only
- No web search configured → link finding may be unavailable; how-to answers still work
- Not signed in to Notes → agenda, Library adds, and Notes actions are blocked until you sign in
